Storm & hail damage roof repair in Burlington, NC

Storm and hail damaged shingle roof on a home in Alamance County, North Carolina

Hail rarely leaves a hole. It leaves a roof that looks fine from the driveway and has quietly stopped working. We answer the phone, get on the roof, and show you photographs of what is actually up there — then file it with your carrier.

What To Look For

Signs of storm and hail damage on a roof

Most hail damage is invisible from the ground. These are the six things worth a second look after a Piedmont storm.

Missing or broken shingles

Once one tab goes, the course above it is exposed. This is the damage that becomes interior water in the next rain.

Hail bruises and granule loss

Impacts knock granules loose and fracture the mat underneath. The shingle looks intact and has lost its waterproofing.

Dents in gutters and metal

The one sign you can see from the driveway. Dented gutters, downspouts and screens mean the roof took the same hits.

Creased or lifted shingles

Wind breaks the seal strip and creases the tab. Laid back down it still looks fine — the seal is gone.

Ceiling stains and attic damp

A brown ring on a ceiling or damp sheathing in the attic is a leak that started weeks before you saw it.

Exposed or sagging decking

Bare underlayment, or a line that dips where it used to be straight. Call the same day on this one.

First 24 Hours

What to do after the storm

Three steps, in this order. Everything else can wait until someone has been on the roof.

Stop the water

Move what you can and put something under the drip. If a slope is open, call us and we will get it covered.

Photograph and date it

Shingles in the yard, dented gutters, ceiling stains. Carriers work from a date of loss, so note the day it hit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see hail damage from the ground?
Usually not. Hail bruises a shingle — it knocks the granules loose and fractures the mat underneath — and that is invisible from the driveway. What you can often spot from the ground are dents in gutters, downspouts, window screens and the metal on vents. Those are the tell that the roof took the same beating.
How soon should I have the roof inspected after a storm?
Sooner is better, because a carrier works from a date of loss and that date gets harder to prove as weeks pass. Getting the roof looked at while the storm is still on the weather record keeps your options open, even if you decide not to file.
Will my homeowners insurance cover storm damage in North Carolina?
Sudden damage from a covered event — hail, wind, a fallen limb — is generally covered, while ordinary wear and age are not. How much you receive depends on your policy, since some carriers here settle older roofs on a depreciated basis rather than replacement cost. We document the damage and build the scope around what is approved.
Will filing a claim raise my premium?
A storm claim is a weather event, not an at-fault claim, and carriers treat those differently from a claim you caused. Rates and rules vary by carrier, so ask yours directly. What we can tell you is that unrepaired storm damage is a reason claims get denied later.
Do you tarp a roof that is leaking now?
Yes, and we answer the phone around the clock for it. If water is coming in, stopping it is the first job — tarp on and secured before anyone talks about scopes or paperwork. Call and tell us what is happening inside the house.
What if the adjuster misses damage or denies the claim?
It happens, usually because a slope was not accessed or a code requirement was left out of the scope. We put our photos, measurements and notes in writing and submit them as a supplement.
What will I pay out of pocket?
On an approved claim, your deductible. We build the scope around what the carrier approves rather than adding a markup on top of it, and everything you owe is in writing before work starts.
