Windows and doors in Burlington, NC

Colonial home in Burlington, North Carolina with replacement windows, a copper porch roof and finished trim

Replacement windows, entry doors and patio sliders. The unit matters less than the opening it goes into, so we check the sill and flash it properly before anything is fitted.

Measured to the opening, not ordered off a chart Our own crew 5.0 star rating Most windows fitted the same day
Two Ways To Fit A Window

Insert or full frame, and why it matters

A cheaper quote usually means an insert window. Sometimes that is exactly right. Sometimes it seals a rotting sill inside the wall, and you find out in five years.

Insert replacement

Fits inside the existing frame Interior trim stays untouched Quicker and less expensive Loses an inch or so of glass area Only suitable if the frame and sill are sound

Full-frame replacement

Back to the rough opening Rotted sill and framing get replaced Flashed and sealed from scratch Keeps the full original glass area The only real fix once water has got in
Where Windows Actually Leak

The unit is the easy part

Almost every leaking window we are called to has a sound window in it. What failed was the flashing, the sill pan or the sealant — the parts nobody sees and nobody quoted for.

Measured on siteEvery opening measured individually. Old houses are not square, and we allow for it.
Sill pan and flashingWater that gets past the glass is directed back out instead of into the wall.
Sealed and insulatedThe gap around the frame is foamed and sealed, which is where the draught was coming from.
Rot repaired firstSoft sills and jambs are rebuilt before the new unit goes in, not sealed over.

When To Replace

Signs a window or door is done

Most of these are not urgent on their own. Together they usually mean you are paying to heat the outside.

A cold draught you can feelIf a candle flickers at the frame on a windy day, the seal around the unit has gone. Fogging between the panesThe seal on a double-glazed unit has failed. No amount of cleaning brings it back. Sashes that stick or will not stay upSwollen frames, failed balances, or a house that has settled around the opening. Soft sills and peeling interior paintWater is getting past the frame and into the wall. This one does not wait. A door that has to be shouldered shutA dropped hinge or a warped slab. It is also the easiest point of entry on the house.

Window & Door Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is it worth replacing windows one or two at a time?
Yes, and it is how a lot of our jobs go. If three windows on the west elevation are failing and the rest are fine, replace those three. We will not tell you the whole house has to be done at once when it does not.
Full-frame replacement or insert windows — what is the difference?
An insert window fits inside your existing frame, which is quicker and cheaper and keeps the interior trim. A full-frame replacement takes everything back to the rough opening, which is what you need when the frame or sill has rotted. We look before recommending one, because the wrong choice traps the problem.
How much will new windows save on energy bills?
Less than the adverts suggest, and more than nothing. The bigger difference is comfort — no draught, no cold pane to sit next to in January, and much less outside noise. We would rather set that expectation than quote you a payback figure we cannot stand behind.
Do you fit patio and sliding doors?
Yes — entry doors, storm doors, sliding patio doors and French doors. The sill and the threshold flashing matter more than the door on a patio slider, which is where most of the leaks we get called to came from.
Are windows and doors covered by a storm claim?
They can be. Wind-driven hail cracks glass and damages frames and screens, and a door can be pushed out of alignment. If a storm hit your roof, it is worth having the openings assessed in the same visit — see our insurance claims help.
How long does the work take?
Most windows are out and the new unit in and sealed the same day. A whole-house replacement usually runs two to four days depending on count. Doors are typically a single day each.
Will you do the trim and the caulking, or do I need a painter?
We finish the exterior — the flashing, the wrap and the sealant are part of the job, not an extra. Interior trim is included on a full-frame replacement. If you want the inside repainted afterwards we will tell you honestly that a painter will do it better.
Do you offer financing on windows and doors?
Yes. We offer financing through Allside and through Builders Discount on projects up to $20,000. We will set out the options with the quote so you can see the monthly figure before committing.
Which brands of window and door do you install?
We are not tied to a single manufacturer, which means we quote to what the house needs rather than what we are obliged to sell. For most replacements that is a vinyl or composite double-glazed unit from a major brand, and we will put the specific product, glass package and ratings in the written quote before you commit.
What warranty comes with new windows and doors?
Two layers. The units themselves carry the manufacturer warranty, which we register for you, and our own installation is covered by a written workmanship warranty. The install is where most window problems actually start, so that second layer is the one that matters on a callback.
Do you use subcontractors?
Our own crew, start to finish. No subcontractors and no handoffs, which is the same way we run a roof. The person who measured the opening is on site when the unit goes in.
